PUTRAJAYA: The federal government and Selangor government signed a memorandum of understanding on the agreement to restructure the state’s water industry.
The MoU which was signed between Water, Green Technology and Energy Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili and Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, earlier today.
It was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and also present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Under the memorandum, Selangor’s water industry will see a restructuring as to provide adequate water supply to the public especially those in the Federal Territory and Selangor.
Ongkili said the federal government was also ready to allocate additional funds to help Selangor to take over water concessionaires and thus allowing the state government to manage the water services via a company owned by the Selangor government.
He added that the Selangor government has been allowed to give offers to water concessionaires on the taking over process and these concessionaires are Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd (PSNB), Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) and Konsortium Abbas Sdn Bhd (Abbas).
